  • Each province has its own archives separate from Library and Archives Canada. You can find vital, tax and some land records among their holdings.
  • Vital records are called civil registrations
  • Census Records
    • Canadian census were taken every 10 years begining in 1851.
    • Canada began recording names of immigrants entering from the U.S. in 1908.
    • Records are currently available through 1921
  • Immigration Records
    • There are no comprehensive passenger lists of immigrants arriving in Canada before 1865.
    • From 1865 onward, immigration records include passenger lists and border entry records.
    • From 1919 - 1924, immigration records were recorded on indigvidual forms, 30 for border entries, 30A for ocean arrivals.
